The 2026 obligatory new year post

Lessons:

Sometimes we have to learn the same lesson over and over again, even when we think we're past it, even when we think we've overcome it, sometimes it creeps on us and catches us off guard. Swallow your pride, take it on the chin, make amends, and try again.

Ambitions and honesty: Accept that we can outgrow old dreams, and that's okay. Accept that the way we see the world can change. Realize that we can change the shape of our aspirations to fit who we are, even as we evolve our vision of who we want to be.

Work-life balance: we don't have to be hustling all the time. But equally, we don't have to be unplugged all the time. Take a moment to figure out what you want and who you want to be, do the work that gets you there, and recalibrate as necessary.

Accept failure for what it is. There is no need to rename it or reframe it. Accept failure as inevitable, eventually, we will all fail at some point. Dust yourself off, learn your lessons, and get back up again. The more we accept failure as part of life, the less of a hold it has over us. Learn to fail with grace. That's all.

Resolutions:

Create more. Even if it's just for yourself. You are a worthy audience.

Give yourself more grace. Give the people around you more grace as well.

Let your kids be who they are. Give them guardrails, and then let them be. They are not "mini copies" of you. Don't force them into outdated ideas of what children should be. Don't spoonfeed them your life lessons, chances are they won't stick anyway. Give them structure, give them rules, and then give them space to figure things out.

Show people you love them. Try to speak their love language sometimes, even if it's not yours.

Accept people as they are, without trying to change them, without trying to "save" them. And if you can't, then step back. Sometimes the best thing is to love from afar, at least for a little while.

Goals:

Career growth. Creative growth. Family-bond growth. Weight regression.
